The year just past, all things considered, has
been good to me: my writing has returned,
the things (however painful) I have learned
about myself have not been useless. As
my thirties peek at me from ambush three
years in the future, I take comfort from
the knowledge I can take them as they come.
Till then, there's nowhere else I'd rather be,
so long as I succeed in keeping men
at arm's length. I don't want to have to start
all over every year, Greg. More is less
and less is more, that's what I've learned, as when
you asked me, Do you see how far apart
we're sitting? and I should have answered, Yes.
